Hand Held (HH) Conc Jumps

The "hand-held" conc jump is a method where the conc is not thrown but held in the hand to detonate as you jump. While this method is more difficult (especially with higher latencies), it can be performed with less space and gives no indication to other players that your conc jump is imminent.

The hand-held conc jump works by amplifying your current vertical and horizontal momentum at the time the conc goes off, thus determining how far you jump. However, if your speed is too slow or too fast, it will not work at all. For example, if the conc goes off at the very peak of a normal forward jump, when you are neither rising from the jump nor yet falling from gravity (and therefore have only horizontal momentum), you will be shot straight forward. Generally, HH's are timed so the conc goes off at the very start of the jump, when you have the most upward and horizontal speed, allowing the greatest distance.

An enhanced version of a handheld jump is strafe jumping into the HH. To strafe jump, hold the left or right strafe key, the forward key, and smoothly turn into the jump. This method can greatly increase the distance of the handheld jump.
