Strafe Skills / Bhop

On the Half-Life engine you can increase your horizontal speed by moving your mouse in the same direction as your strafe. This physics feature is exploited in jumping techniques used to gain speed beyond the normal class speed limits known as "strafe-jumping" and "bunny hopping" (bhoping). To strafe jump, hold the left or right strafe key, the forward key, and quickly but smoothly turn into the jump. When you jump, release all keys and stop turning.

Air strafing is a technique that allows one to change directions in the air. To air strafe, use a strafe key and look smoothly into direction of the strafe (do not use the forward key while air strafing). This greatly increasing the effectiveness of conc jumping in general by allowing you to change direction after you are already in the air, enabling very precise landings.

Although it takes practice, you can combine bunny hopping with a hand-held conc jump to increase the distance of the hand-held jump and the speed you move around the map. To do this, prime your conc when you are at the peak of your bhop jump.

Learning to bhop is not easy, and learning from a player who already knows how is best (The Church of Conc server has a speedometer which is good for bhop practice.) Here are some nice guides to get you started:
